“BJP Will Stop You from Eating Fish!” Mamata Banerjee’s Massive Warning in Purba Medinipur

In a direct appeal to the cultural sentiments of Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP during a rally in Purba Medinipur. She warned the electorate that a victory for the BJP would lead to an interference in their personal lives, specifically their food habits. Banerjee went as far as to claim that if the TMC loses even a single seat, the BJP would move to stop people from eating fish, a staple of the Bengali diet.

“Be very careful! If they win, they will dictate what goes into your kitchen. If I lose even one seat, the BJP will use that power to stop you from eating fish,” Mamata declared before a massive crowd. She accused the BJP of trying to impose an alien culture on West Bengal, referring to the saffron party’s perceived push for vegetarianism in other parts of the country. According to her, the fight is not just for political power but to protect the very identity and traditions of the Bengali people.

The BJP has dismissed these claims as “baseless fear-mongering” and “desperation.” Party spokespersons stated that the government has no intention of interfering with anyone’s dietary choices. However, Mamata Banerjee’s statement has successfully shifted the electoral narrative toward cultural autonomy. By bringing “Maach-Bhaat” (Fish and Rice) into the political arena, she is positioning herself as the sole guardian of Bengali heritage against what she calls an “outsider’s agenda.”
