Alireza Tangsiri Eliminated! Israel Claims Death of IRGC Navy Chief Behind Hormuz Strait Blockade

In a major military strike that has redefined the ongoing West Asia conflict, Israel on Thursday, March 26, 2026, announced the elimination of Commodore Alireza Tangsiri, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that Tangsiri was killed in a precision overnight airstrike in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas. He was labeled as the “man directly responsible” for the mining and blockade of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video statement confirming the operation, stating, “Last night, we eliminated the commander of the IRGC Navy. This individual led the illegal closure of the Strait of Hormuz and posed a threat to global energy security.” The IDF also claimed to have killed several other high-ranking naval officials, including intelligence chief Behnam Rezaei, in the same strike.

While Iranian state media has yet to issue an official confirmation of Tangsiri’s death, reports of massive explosions at IRGC naval facilities in Bandar Abbas have surfaced. Tangsiri, who had led the IRGC Navy since 2018, was a hardline figure known for his aggressive maritime tactics against Western forces. If confirmed, his assassination marks the latest high-profile loss for Tehran following the deaths of other senior leaders earlier this month. The operation has caused an immediate spike in global oil prices as the international community watches for a possible Iranian retaliation.
