‘Petrol Shortage League!’ Iceland Cricket Mocks Pakistan as PSL Faces Humiliating Budget Cuts

Pakistan cricket has hit a new low as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) faces an unprecedented crisis. Due to a severe fuel shortage and economic instability triggered by the Middle East conflict, the PCB has canceled the grand opening ceremony and barred spectators from the stadiums. Originally planned across six cities, the entire tournament has now been restricted to just Karachi and Lahore to conserve fuel.
Taking a brutal dig at the situation, Iceland Cricket tweeted, “We didn’t know what PSL stood for. Now we know: Petrol Shortage League.” This post went viral instantly, adding to the PCB’s embarrassment. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated that the decisions were made following government advice to minimize fuel consumption, promising to compensate clubs for the loss of gate money.
The crisis is compounded by a mass exodus of foreign players. After Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani joined KKR, Sri Lankan star Dasun Shanaka is reportedly heading to Rajasthan Royals. Big names like Glenn Maxwell and Harry Brook have also expressed reluctance to travel to Pakistan under current conditions. While Naqvi threatened legal action against defecting players, the cricket world continues to view the “empty-stadium PSL” as a major setback for the sport in Pakistan.
