Birbhum witnessed yet another tragic mining accident on Monday when a massive cave-in at an illegal stone quarry killed three labourers on the spot. The incident occurred at a quarry reportedly owned by Sirajul Islam, a high-ranking member of the Birbhum Zilla Parishad. The workers were busy breaking stones when a large section of the quarry wall collapsed over them.

This marks the second major mining disaster in the district within six months, raising serious questions about the ongoing illegal mining operations under political patronage. Locals have alleged that no safety measures were in place at the site. The police have initiated an investigation and sent the bodies for post-mortem, while the influential owner remains under the scanner of public anger.
