100% Webcasting in All Booths! ECI Gears Up for a Tech-Driven Bengal Election 2026!
In a massive push for transparency and voter convenience, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced groundbreaking measures for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections. For the first time, the Commission has committed to 100% webcasting across all polling stations in the state. This means every single booth will be monitored live via high-definition cameras, with real-time feeds accessible to control rooms at the district and state levels, leaving no room for electoral malpractice.
Further simplifying the voting process, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar confirmed that the voter limit per polling station has been reduced from 1,500 to 1,200 electors. This strategic decision aimed at decongesting booths will lead to the addition of approximately 14,000 new polling stations across West Bengal, bringing the total count to over 94,000. By limiting the number of voters, the ECI intends to reduce waiting times and ensure that the voting process remains smooth even in high-density areas.
The expansion of booths is specifically designed to bring polling stations closer to residential clusters, gated societies, and rural hamlets, facilitating easier access for the elderly and PwD voters. With 100% digital surveillance and more manageable booth sizes, the 2026 polls are set to be the most technologically advanced and voter-friendly elections in Bengal’s history. The ECI’s message is clear: every vote will be cast under the watchful eye of the law.
