No tolerance for negligence, ECI issues strict warning ahead of West Bengal Assembly Elections
Ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is ramping up security and administrative oversight. Reports suggest a significant increase in the number of General and Police Observers compared to the 2021 elections. The Commission is contemplating appointing at least one General Observer per assembly constituency, with the possibility of deploying multiple Police Observers in highly sensitive areas.
Following a meeting between Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the full bench of the Commission, and state officials, the ECI has sent a clear message: any negligence or deliberate irregularities in the electoral process will face stringent disciplinary action. As part of this comprehensive micro-planning, 294 Returning Officers have already been appointed for the state’s 294 assembly seats. By increasing the presence of observers—including expenditure observers to monitor candidate finances—the EC is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a transparent and neutral electoral process.
