“Learn from ‘Animal”! Allu Sirish Urges Hindi Studios to Embrace Pan-Indian Releases
Allu Sirish, actor and brother of superstar Allu Arjun, has pointed out a significant missed opportunity for Bollywood in the era of pan-Indian cinema. In an interview with Variety India, he stated that not dubbing Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ into Telugu was a major strategic error that impacted its box office reach.
Sirish emphasized that South Indian audiences are more eager than ever to consume Hindi content. “Just as Hindi audiences have embraced Telugu films, audiences in the Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada markets are ready for Hindi cinema,” he noted. Citing the success of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ and Laxman Utekar’s ‘Chhaava’, Sirish urged Hindi studios to make regional dubbing a standard practice rather than an experiment.
He argued that ‘Animal’ thrived in the Telugu market, and ‘Dhurandhar’ could have achieved similar success if released aggressively. He dismissed online negativity as fringe noise, asserting that mainstream audiences have no linguistic bias. With ‘Dhurandhar 2’ set for release on March 19, Sirish’s comments have sparked a debate regarding Bollywood’s approach to the vast and lucrative South Indian film market.
