₹3.25 Lakh Crore Mega Deal! Macron’s India Visit Could Finalize 114 Rafale Jets For IAF

In a significant move to bolster strategic and military ties, French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to visit India from February 17 to 19, 2026. This high-profile visit marks a pivotal moment in the bilateral relationship between New Delhi and Paris, coming under the framework of the ambitious “Horizon 2047” roadmap. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Macron are expected to engage in comprehensive discussions covering defense, space, technology, and clean energy.
The Multi-Billion Dollar Defense Deal: The highlight of the visit is expected to be the formalization of India’s largest-ever defense acquisition. Reports suggest that the Ministry of Defence may grant approval for the purchase of 114 Rafale Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) for the Indian Air Force just ahead of Macron’s arrival. This mega-deal, estimated at a staggering ₹3.25 lakh crore, aims to significantly upgrade India’s air superiority.
Push for ‘Make in India’: Under the proposed agreement, India will procure 18 Rafale jets directly from France’s Dassault Aviation in fly-away condition. The remaining 96 aircraft will be manufactured within India, marking a massive win for the ‘Make in India’ initiative and ensuring deep technology transfer. Production of components is expected to commence by 2028. This follows the previous procurement of 36 Rafale jets for the IAF and the ongoing deal for 26 Rafale-M jets for the Indian Navy’s aircraft carriers, INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya.
Focus on Innovation and AI: Beyond defense, the visit emphasizes future technologies. In Mumbai, the two leaders will jointly inaugurate the “India-France Year of Innovation 2026.” Furthermore, on February 19, President Macron will participate in the “AI Impact Summit” in New Delhi. The visit also holds immense weight in the context of the Indo-Pacific region, cementing France as India’s premier strategic ally in the West.
