In a major boost to the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) combat capabilities, the Ministry of Defence has unveiled an ambitious plan to induct indigenous 1,000 kg aerial bombs. Under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, these bombs are designed to match the destructive power of the legendary American MK-84. The most significant advantage is their universal compatibility, allowing them to be deployed from both Russian-origin Sukhoi-30 MKI and French-made Rafale or Mirage fighter jets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry has already issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) for this project, which will be executed in two phases. The first phase focuses on the design and development of six prototypes, while the second phase involves a massive tender for 600 bombs. Under the DAP 2020 Make-II category, a minimum of 50% indigenous content is mandatory, opening doors for Indian startups and MSMEs.
