Haridwar Mayor Kiran Jaiswal confirmed that a draft proposal has been prepared and will be presented during the municipal board meeting on April 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the sale and consumption of meat, liquor, and eggs are prohibited within a 5 km radius of &#8216;Har Ki Pauri&#8217;. However, the administration has received numerous complaints regarding illegal meat shops operating in various pockets of the city. According to the Mayor, while only 20 shops hold valid licenses, a surge in unauthorized outlets has led to unsanitary conditions and an increase in the stray dog menace. If the proposal is cleared, these shops will be shifted to Sarai village on the city&#8217;s outskirts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Religious leaders, including Mahant Ravindra Puri, have welcomed the move, stating that the presence of meat shops during a massive gathering like Ardh Kumbh hurts the sentiments of millions of devotees. State Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan also emphasized that the administration will ensure the sanctity of the holy city remains intact during the festival.
