He is currently the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leadership Change After Turbulence<\/strong> The appointment comes shortly after the resignation of Pieter Elbers on March 11, following a severe operational crisis in late 2025 that saw thousands of flight cancellations. IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta stated that Walsh\u2019s exceptional track record in managing large-scale airline operations makes him &#8220;ideally suited&#8221; to navigate the competitive international aviation environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 2026 Onboarding<\/strong> Walsh is expected to officially join IndiGo by August 3, 2026, after completing his tenure at IATA on July 31.
