The political landscape of West Bengal turned into a battlefield on Thursday after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission (EC) via her X (formerly Twitter) handle. Expressing her outrage over the recent reshuffle of top state officials, the TMC supremo alleged that the EC is functioning as a tool for the BJP to destabilize her government. She hinted that these administrative changes are a precursor to imposing President’s Rule in the state ahead of the 2026 Assembly Elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to these allegations, BJP\u2019s Darjeeling MP and National Spokesperson Raju Bista took a dig at the Chief Minister, accusing her of playing the “victim card.” Bista asserted that the mass transfers ordered by the EC are necessary to ensure a free and fair election in a state marred by political violence and administrative bias. “Mamata Banerjee knows that the ground is slipping beneath her feet. This talk of President\u2019s Rule is nothing but a preemptive excuse for her upcoming electoral defeat,” Bista stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further added that if the rule of law had been respected in Bengal over the past decade, the situation would not have required such stringent oversight. Bista claimed that the TMC is terrified of a peaceful voting process because they can no longer rely on “booth capturing and intimidation.” As the war of words escalates, the narrative of “State Autonomy vs Constitutional Oversight” is set to become the central theme of the 2026 campaign, with both sides refusing to back down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
