In the remote corners of these five states, polling officials are braving the mighty Brahmaputra river, landslide-prone hills, and dense forests to ensure that “No Voter is Left Behind.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Assam, reaching the riverine islands known as ‘Chars’ requires navigating the turbulent Brahmaputra on small country boats with heavy EVMs and VVPAT machines. Similarly, in Kerala’s Edamalakkudy\u2014the state’s first tribal panchayat\u2014polling teams often have to trek nearly 30 kilometers through rugged terrains and elephant corridors. The ECI\u2019s briefing highlighted that in several pockets of Tamil Nadu’s Western Ghats, officials even use mules or walk for hours to set up booths for just a handful of voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar emphasized that the Commission has deployed specialized logistics, including satellite phones and heavy-duty vehicles, to maintain connectivity in shadow zones. In some cases, helicopters are being used to airlift staff to isolated mountain tops. This dedication of the polling personnel, who risk their lives against nature\u2019s fury, remains the true backbone of the world’s largest democratic process.
