World Cup Final Aftermath; Teams Stranded in India, Arshdeep Singh Slapped with Fine!
The thrill of the T20 World Cup has been overshadowed by logistical nightmares as teams remain stranded in India. Due to escalating military tensions in the Middle East and subsequent airspace closures, the South African and West Indian squads have been unable to depart. The ICC officially cited that, due to missile attack threats, several flight routes are blocked, leading to widespread cancellations and delays. The governing body is in constant touch with airlines and aviation authorities, with officials hopeful that the South African team will depart Wednesday night, while the remaining West Indian players are expected to fly home within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh faced disciplinary action following the final. The ICC fined him 15% of his match fee for breaching Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which prohibits throwing a ball in a dangerous or inappropriate manner at a player. During the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings, Arshdeep’s throw struck Daryl Mitchell. Although the two players shook hands post-match and Arshdeep clarified that the incident was unintentional and an immediate apology was offered, the ICC maintained that the conduct warranted a penalty.
