“Won’t Let Anyone Be Driven Out of Bengal!” Mamata Banerjee Blasts EC Over Voter List Deletions

Following the Supreme Court’s stringent deadline, the Election Commission released the final supplementary voter list on Monday night. While 32.68 lakh names were cleared, a staggering 27.16 lakh names were removed from the rolls. Reacting sharply to this development on Tuesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Commission during a rally in Nadia.
“It is because I personally stood in the Supreme Court that 32 lakh names have been restored. We will fight for the rest, do not worry,” the TMC leader assured her supporters. She made a startling claim that nearly 40,000 voters were removed from her own Bhawanipur constituency. According to her, the deletions were “selectively carried out” in districts like Murshidabad, North Dinajpur, and Nadia.
Expressing concern over the exclusion of Matua and refugee community members in regions like Gaighata and Haringhata, Mamata asserted, “I will not let a single person be driven out of Bengal. On one hand, they are cutting names, and on the other, they are looting votes.” She urged those excluded to appeal to the tribunal, promising that the Trinamool Congress would provide free legal representation and lawyers to help them reclaim their voting rights.
