Winter’s Last Hurrah! Mercury Dips Below 14°C in Kolkata as Northerly Winds Return

ust as Bengal was preparing to welcome Spring, a sudden dip in temperature has brought back the winter chill across the state. In mid-February, Kolkata has once again recorded temperatures below 14°C, nearly 2.5 degrees below normal. The Alipore Meteorological Department has stated that while the weather will remain dry, the shivering cold will persist for a few more days due to strong northerly winds.

Regional Outlook: Western districts of West Bengal are expected to witness temperatures near the 10°C mark, while North Bengal will experience light to moderate fog over the next three days. Fortunately, no major warnings have been issued for the next seven days, ensuring a stable yet chilly climate.

Is Winter Leaving? The Met Office suggests that this cold spell is temporary. Within the next 2 to 3 days, temperatures will start rising gradually, marking the final exit of winter for this season. While mornings remain crisp and cold, the afternoons are becoming warmer under the sun. Bengal is expected to transition into the Spring season by the end of this week.
