‘Why CM’s Photo on Screen?’ Teacher Beaten for Questioning; Poll Workers Threaten to Boycott Election Duty

Chaos erupted at Ranaghat Debnath Institution for Boys in Nadia during an election training session on Friday. A school teacher and poll worker, Saikat Chatterjee, alleged that he was brutally assaulted by a group led by BDO Sayantan Bhattacharya. The dispute reportedly began when Chatterjee questioned why Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s photograph was being displayed on a giant screen inside the training venue.

Following the incident, fellow poll workers launched a protest, boycotting the session and raising serious concerns about their safety during the upcoming elections. While BDO Sayantan Bhattacharya denied the allegations, calling them “completely false” and labeling the incident a minor verbal spat, the agitated workers have demanded strict action against the officials involved.

Taking note of the situation, the Election Commission has sought a detailed report from the District Election Officer. Furthermore, sources suggest that the Commission has directed the police to file a formal case against those responsible for the alleged assault.
