“Where is the 4% Hike?” Govt Employees Slam Nabanna Over Budget Promise Delay

The deadlock over Dearness Allowance (DA) for West Bengal government employees has intensified despite the state initiating the process to clear 25% arrears following Supreme Court directives. Employees have raised serious allegations regarding “major discrepancies” in the credited amounts, claiming they are receiving significantly less than their actual dues.

Adding to the fury is the uncertainty surrounding the 4% DA hike announced in the February budget. Even as April begins, the administration remains silent on its implementation, leading to widespread resentment. Accusing the government of “tactical delays,” various employee unions have now called for a protest march to Kalighat.

Amidst this turmoil, a silver lining emerged for pensioners. According to a fresh notification issued by Nabanna on April 1, those who retired between 2008 and 2015, including family pensioners, will receive their outstanding DA within the next 180 days. While the roadmap for pensioners is now clear, the growing agitation among active staff poses a significant administrative hurdle for the Mamata Banerjee government.
