Voter List Scam? Mahua Moitra Alleges 40,000 Fake Forms Found with BJP; Kolkata Turns Into a Battlefield

The political climate in West Bengal has reached a fever pitch following explosive allegations by TMC MP Mahua Moitra regarding the state’s voter list. Moitra has accused BJP cadres of being “caught red-handed” with approximately 30,000 to 40,000 Form-6 applications (used for enrolling new voters). She questioned how a party’s booth-level agents could possess such a massive number of forms when the legal limit for collection is significantly lower.
This controversy sparked a massive protest outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office in Kolkata. Supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress staged an indefinite sit-in, leading to violent clashes with the police and BJP workers. Security forces had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and maintain law and order. While Moitra maintains that this is a systematic attempt at electoral fraud by the saffron party, the BJP has dismissed these claims as a desperate political stunt. With the streets of Kolkata witnessing intense slogan-shouting and heavy police deployment, the battle for the electoral roll has now become the focal point of the upcoming elections.
