Uttarakhand Gears Up for Record Pilgrims; Can the Govt Meet the Huge Fuel Demand?

Preparations for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra 2026 are in full swing as Uttarakhand expects a record-breaking influx of pilgrims. To manage the massive crowds, the administration has estimated a requirement of nearly 20 lakh LPG cylinders across seven districts to power hotels, dhabas, and community kitchens. This is a significant jump from last year’s 16 lakh cylinders.
The ambitious plan comes at a time when the country is already grappling with a localized LPG shortage. Authorities have submitted a proposal to the state government to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply for the pilgrimage. However, experts warn that diverting such a massive volume of cooking gas could impact the daily lives of ordinary citizens and local businesses.
Navigating the treacherous Himalayan terrain and unpredictable weather to maintain this supply chain remains a logistical nightmare. While the yatra is a major economic driver for the region, balancing the fuel needs of millions of devotees with the requirements of domestic households will be a high-stakes test for the administration this year.
