UP Budget 2026: Public Outrage in Mirzapur Over Healthcare Crisis; Is the Budget Just a “Lollipop”?

Following the presentation of the Uttar Pradesh state budget, the residents of Mirzapur have expressed strong dissatisfaction. While the budget highlights investments in health infrastructure and schemes like scooties for girl students, locals are questioning the actual implementation of these funds.
Medical Colleges Without Doctors: Local residents, including Dilip Singh and Gulabdhar Mishra, pointed out a glaring irony: despite having a medical college in Mirzapur, there are no specialists for Cardiology or Neurology. They criticized the system, stating, “Are medical students only taught how to ‘refer’ patients to larger cities?” Rajmani Dubey emphasized that without recruiting doctors, the massive budgetary allocations are meaningless for the common man.
Election Gimmicks vs. Real Needs: Many residents, like Sanjay Kumar Ojha, labeled the budget as a “fake” or “election gimmick,” especially the scooty scheme for students. They argued that such promises are recycled near election cycles without providing long-term benefits. Manish Kumar raised concerns about the lack of focus on environmental pollution and food adulteration, urging that the budget should be visionary rather than just a set of populist announcements.
