Tragedy Hits Bangladesh Ahead Of Polls: Hindu Businessman Sushen Sarkar Brutally Murdered In Mymensingh

Just two days before the national elections scheduled for February 12, another horrific attack on the minority community has shaken Bangladesh. Sushen Chandra Sarkar (62), a Hindu businessman and owner of a rice shop in Mymensingh’s Trishal, was hacked to death inside his shop late Monday night. The attackers reportedly looted several lakhs of Bangladeshi Taka before closing the shutters and fleeing.

Context of Violence: This murder follows a disturbing trend of attacks on minorities in Mymensingh. In December 2025, another Hindu youth, Dipan Chandra Das, was lynched. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council recorded over 42 incidents of communal violence in January 2026 alone. While the local police have initiated an investigation, the Indian government and international human rights bodies have expressed deep concern over the deteriorating safety of minorities under the current interim administration.
