TMC Releases List of 17 Candidates in Assam, Will It Stop the BJP Juggernaut?

In a major political development ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has released its list of 17 candidates. Targeting key districts like Cachar, Kokrajhar, Tinsukia, and Dhubri, the party aim to challenge the ruling BJP on its home turf. Notable candidates include Udangshree Narzary from Baokhungri, Mominur Islam from Bilasipara, and Arif Akbar Ahmed from Jaleswar.
TMC leader Susmita Dev emphasized that the BJP remains their “Enemy Number One.” In a calculated move to prevent vote fragmentation that could inadvertently benefit the BJP, the TMC has strategically avoided fielding candidates in seats where the Congress-led alliance holds a strong winning chance. “Our priority is to ensure the BJP does not get an easy walkover,” stated party leader Dulu Ahmed.
With Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma already spearheading the BJP’s campaign from Jalukbari, the entry of TMC’s focused “Team 17” adds a new dimension to the contest. As the state gears up for a high-stakes battle, TMC’s cautious yet aggressive candidate selection has sent ripples through the political corridors of Dispur.
