Threat to Legal Profession! SC Cancels Bail of Accused Involved in Fake Law Degree Racket.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday took a stern stand against the erosion of institutional integrity by canceling the bail of Mazhar Khan, an accused involved in issuing fake law degrees. A bench comprising Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and R. Mahadevan set aside the Allahabad High Court’s earlier order, emphasizing that such organized rackets pose a direct threat to the sanctity of the legal profession.
Court’s Observations The apex court noted that after being released on bail, the accused allegedly misused his freedom by stalking and intimidating the complainant, Advocate Zeba Khan. The bench remarked that the case reveals a “systematic and organized pattern” of creating and using fake educational credentials, which has serious public and institutional implications.
Refusal of CBI Probe While the court cancelled the bail, it declined the petitioner’s request for a CBI investigation. The bench stated that there is no concrete evidence on record to prove that the state police investigation was biased or influenced by external factors.
Case Background Mazhar Khan was accused of running a racket that provided forged degree certificates to aspiring lawyers. He was previously arrested by the Bengaluru police for his involvement in a fake BHMS degree scam. His criminal activities spanned across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, leading to multiple FIRs against him.
