“The Real Test is Still to Come!” Sourav Ganguly Issues Warning to Gautam Gambhir After T20 WC Win

Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has shared his candid views on Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as Team India’s head coach. While Gambhir has achieved a historic feat by winning two ICC trophies (Champions Trophy 2025 and T20 World Cup 2026) in a short span, Ganguly believes the “acid test” is still over a year away. According to the Prince of Calcutta, the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa will be the ultimate measure of Gambhir’s coaching legacy.
Speaking in a recent interview, Ganguly stated, “Gautam is a very good coach, especially in white-ball cricket under these conditions. However, his real test will be in South Africa in 2027.” Ganguly also highlighted areas of concern in Test cricket, where India recently faced home series defeats. He advised Gambhir to “get the pitch out of his system” and focus on playing on better, more sporting wickets in India rather than rank turners. “To win Test matches, his batsmen need to put 350-400 runs on the board. He has the bowling attack to win on any surface,” Ganguly added. Despite the critique, Ganguly expressed full confidence in Gambhir’s passion and straightforward approach.
