Temporary Relief, Heatwave to Return as Temperatures Set to Hit 40°C in Early April

The Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted scattered light rainfall across South Bengal, including Kolkata, for today, Tuesday. A Nor’wester (Kalbaishakhi) is likely to strike later this week, bringing thunderstorms and gusty winds to the city and its neighboring districts. North Bengal is also expected to witness turbulent weather conditions.
However, the relief from the heat will be short-lived. From Wednesday onwards, temperatures in South Bengal are expected to rise significantly. According to the weather office, mercury levels in the western districts are likely to touch the 40°C mark in the first week of April.
A safety red flag has been raised for coastal regions. Fishermen have been prohibited from venturing into the North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coasts of the Bay of Bengal due to rough sea conditions. While Tuesday remains dominated by storm clouds, the state is bracing for a scorching summer ahead.
