Storm in Lok Sabha: 11 BJP Women MPs Write to Speaker Om Birla, Seek Strict Action Against Opposition

In a major escalation following the chaotic session of February 4, eleven women MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have formally written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The joint letter, submitted on February 10, 2026, condemns the “unruly and shameful” conduct of certain opposition women members during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address.
Allegations of Indiscipline: The BJP MPs detailed how opposition members allegedly rushed into the Well, tore up papers, and threw them toward the Chair. The letter also highlights a security concern, stating that some members climbed onto tables and advanced toward the Prime Minister’s seat with banners, even intimidating senior ministers on the treasury benches.
Restraint Over Retaliation: “We were deeply provoked, but at the behest of our senior leaders, we maintained restraint to prevent further deterioration of the situation,” the MPs stated in their letter. They further noted that some opposition members created a ruckus near the Speaker’s chamber, describing the entire episode as one of the “darkest moments in parliamentary history.”
A Strategic Support for Om Birla: The letter arrives at a crucial juncture when Congress and other opposition parties are reportedly readying a No-Confidence Motion against the Speaker. By praising Om Birla’s seven-year tenure and highlighting his impartiality, the BJP women MPs have sent a clear message of solidarity. They have urged the Speaker to invoke parliamentary rules to discipline those who disrupted the sanctity of the democratic institution.
