Software Engineer by Day, Master Thief by Night! 26 Robberies, a BMW, and 1kg Gold Recovered

In a shocking case from Visakhapatnam, a 27-year-old software engineer has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating 26 burglaries to fund his extravagant lifestyle. The accused, who was working for a reputed tech firm, turned to crime because his salary was insufficient to sustain his taste for luxury, including high-end cars and foreign trips.
Modus Operandi: Scouting in a BMW: Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi revealed that the accused used a sophisticated approach to crime. He would drive around residential areas in his luxury BMW to identify locked houses whose owners were away. Using simple tools like hammers, cutters, and screwdrivers, he would break in while concealing his identity with masks and caps.
Recovery of Stolen Valuables: Following his arrest, police recovered nearly 700 grams of gold jewelry, 3.8 kg of silver, and the BMW car bought with stolen money. The total loot across his 26 cases involved over 1 kg of gold and 6 kg of silver. Investigators also suspect that the techie spent a significant portion of his ill-gotten wealth on international vacations.
A Habitual Offender: Interestingly, the accused has a long criminal history dating back to his teens. He had previously served 14 months in jail for multiple thefts in his home district of Kakinada and was once sent to a juvenile center. In total, he is believed to be linked to 62 burglaries. This arrest has brought a sigh of relief to the residents of Visakhapatnam, who had been terrorized by a series of mysterious break-ins over the past few months.
