Ropeway Horror in Chhattisgarh! 1 Dead, 6 Injured After Cable Snaps at Khallari Mata Temple

A festive morning turned into a nightmare at the famous Khallari Mata Temple in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district today, March 22, 2026. A ropeway trolley carrying pilgrims snapped from its cable while descending from the hilltop shrine, falling from a height of approximately 200 to 300 feet. The incident occurred during the peak rush of the Navratri festival.
Casualties and Injuries: The deceased has been identified as Ayushi Satkar (28), a resident of Raipur, who succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Six others, including her husband Rishabh Dhavre (29) and two minors, sustained severe injuries. The injured were rushed to a local hospital and later referred to a multi-specialty facility in Raipur for advanced treatment.
Investigation and Action: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep anguish over the tragedy and ordered a magisterial inquiry. Preliminary reports suggest mechanical failure or poor maintenance as the cause of the cable snap. The district administration has cordoned off the site and suspended ropeway operations until a complete safety audit is performed.
