Relief from Heat as Nor’wester Lashes South Bengal; Kolkata Under Yellow Alert Today

A powerful Western Disturbance has triggered widespread rain and thunderstorms across West Bengal. Following a turbulent Monday night, Tuesday morning saw overcast skies and a steady drizzle in Kolkata and several other districts. The Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted continued rainfall across the state, issuing an ‘Orange Alert’ for seven districts in South Bengal.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 50-60 kmph in high-risk areas, while Kolkata remains under a ‘Yellow Alert’ with predicted wind speeds of 40-50 kmph. Heavy rain is also forecasted for North Bengal districts like Darjeeling and Alipurduar. In Bankura and West Midnapore, the persistent rain has brought down temperatures, providing much-needed respite from the scorching heat. However, this relief will be short-lived; the weather is expected to clear up by Thursday, with temperatures set to rise by 3-4°C over the weekend.
