Rebellion in Bengal BJP! Protests Erupt Across Districts After Release of Candidate List

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections has hit a major roadblock even before the first vote is cast. Following the announcement of candidates for the first two phases, a wave of resentment and protests has swept across the state. Grassroots workers and local supporters have launched fierce demonstrations in several districts, expressing their deep dissatisfaction with the selected names and demanding an immediate change of candidates.
From North Bengal to the coastal belts of South 24 Parganas, the anger is palpable. In many areas, party offices were ransacked, and effigies of senior leaders were burnt. The primary grievance of the protesters is the nomination of “outsiders” or recent turncoats over loyal, long-time party workers. “We have shed blood for the party for years, and now they give tickets to people who joined just yesterday. This is unacceptable,” shouted a frustrated worker during a rally in Malda.
This internal rift has put the state leadership in a tight spot. While the party high command maintains that the selections were made based on rigorous internal surveys and merit, the backlash suggests a significant disconnect with the ground reality. Political experts warn that if these grievances are not addressed immediately, the BJP might face massive sabotage from within on polling day. With some disgruntled leaders threatening to contest as independents, the “Saffron Brigade” faces the uphill task of uniting its rank and file before the high-stakes battle begins.
