Public Welfare is the Bedrock of Indian Communication Tradition: Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi in Bhopal

Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Dwivedi, former Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), emphasized that the core objective of the Indian communication vision is ‘Lok-Mangal’ (public welfare) and ‘Lok-Ranjan’ (public engagement). Speaking at LNCT University, Bhopal, he highlighted that in the current era of global and digital communication, revisiting Indian traditional knowledge systems is more relevant than ever.

Bridging Tradition and Modernity: While delivering a lecture on “Indian Knowledge Tradition and Communication,” Prof. Dwivedi noted that India’s traditional systems are fundamentally built on dialogue, social awareness, and responsibility. He pointed out that the elements of communication embedded in the Vedas, Upanishads, and cultural narratives provide a robust ideological foundation for modern media and mass communication. According to him, Indian communication is not just about the dissemination of information but about strengthening ethics and sensitivity within society.

Engaging the Next Generation: The event was organized jointly by the Indian Knowledge Tradition Cell, IQAC, and the School of Journalism & Mass Communication, chaired by Prof. Dr. Anu Srivastava. The session concluded with a vibrant Q&A segment where students asked insightful questions about the integration of ancient wisdom with contemporary media practices. Prof. Dwivedi encouraged the students to embrace their roots while navigating the complexities of the digital age.
