Pre-Poll Violence in West Bengal; BJP Leader Shot at Point-Blank Range in Gangasagar, Condition Critical
Gangasagar turned into a battlefield on Wednesday morning as unidentified gunmen shot at BJP leader Trilokesh Dhali. The incident occurred around 8 AM near the Shridham bus stand when two bike-borne assailants fired at Dhali before fleeing the spot. He was rushed to Sagar Rural Hospital in a critical condition with a bullet wound to his chest.
The victim’s daughter, a local Panchayat member, has alleged that the ruling TMC is behind the attack due to political rivalry. BJP leadership has reacted sharply, demanding the immediate suspension of the local police OC and announcing plans to move the Election Commission. Trinamool Congress, however, dismissed the allegations, calling it a desperate attempt to politicize a crime before the polls. Police have cordoned off the area and a high-level probe is underway to identify the attackers.
