Poll Countdown Begins: EC Clears 52 Lakh ‘Pending’ Voters in West Bengal!

In a major push towards ensuring a clean electoral roll, the Election Commission (EC) has reported significant progress in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal. Out of the 60 lakh ‘under consideration’ voters, the EC has successfully processed the data of 52 lakh individuals.
The CEO’s office released the 8th supplementary list today, clearing nearly 3 lakh voters. Around 8 lakh cases remain, which the Commission promises to resolve by April 6—the final day for filing nominations for the first phase of polls. This mammoth task is being handled by 705 judges under Supreme Court guidelines.
However, the process hasn’t been without controversy. Reports of deliberate deletions have triggered protests in districts like Malda, prompting the Apex Court to express concern. Amidst the tension, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and his team have met with Bengal’s top bureaucrats and police brass, issuing stern warnings to maintain strict neutrality and peace during the upcoming elections.
