Renowned poet Srijato was involved in a severe road accident while returning from an event in Medinipur on Sunday. Near Santragachi, a vehicle rammed into his car from behind, causing significant damage. Fortunately, Srijato escaped major injury, though he suffered muscle trauma. He is currently undergoing medical treatment and recovery at home.

As news of his alleged “serious injuries” spread on Tuesday, causing alarm among his admirers, the poet took to his Facebook handle to clarify his condition. He wrote, “I want to inform everyone that I am out of danger and currently at home. Treatment is ongoing. While the car was severely damaged, I am safe, and so is the driver.” Srijato also clarified that his wife, Durba, was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Srijato expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who repeatedly inquired about his health despite her busy schedule. Following medical advice, the poet will remain under house rest for the next few days, meaning he will be unable to attend his previously scheduled engagements. He has issued a sincere apology to the event organizers for his unavoidable absence.
