Pak-China On High Alert! India Inks ₹445 Crore Deal for Russia’s Lethal Tunguska System

In a strategic move to fortify its multi-layered air defense grid, the Indian Ministry of Defence has signed a significant contract worth ₹445 crore with Russia for the procurement of the Tunguska Air Defence Missile System. Finalized on Friday in New Delhi with Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport, this deal is aimed at providing high-intensity, short-range protection to the Indian Army’s mechanized formations. Amidst rising tensions and drone incursions along the LAC and LoC, the induction of the Tunguska system is expected to send shivers through the camps of India’s adversaries.

The Lethality of Tunguska: The 2K22 Tunguska is a unique hybrid system that integrates both surface-to-air missiles and anti-aircraft guns on a single tracked chassis. It features two twin 30mm autocannons capable of firing up to 5,000 rounds per minute, alongside eight 9M311 radio-guided missiles with a reach of 10 km. This dual-action capability allows it to neutralize low-flying targets, including stealthy drones, cruise missiles, and helicopters, with pinpoint accuracy before they can strike.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh oversaw the signing of the agreement, which further cements the long-standing Indo-Russian strategic partnership. Unlike many conventional systems, the Tunguska’s advanced radar can detect threats up to 18 km away and function effectively even in electronically contested environments. As India prepares for modern hybrid warfare, this ₹445 crore investment ensures that the Indian Army’s forward divisions have an impenetrable shield against aerial threats, making any cross-border adventure by Pakistan or China a suicide mission.
