Owner of Crores, Yet Homeless! Heart-Wrenching Plight of an Elderly Man in Bihar’s Chhapra

A deeply distressing case of elder abuse and betrayal has surfaced from the posh Prabhu Nath Nagar area of Chhapra, Bihar. 60-year-old Umesh Chandra Verma, who owns ancestral property and land valued at several crores, is currently forced to live in a ‘Rain Basera’ (night shelter). Despite his vast wealth, Umesh is struggling with declining health and has no access to his own home.
Umesh recounted his tragic past, stating he spent his youth working in the tea gardens of Assam, sending every penny back home on the false promise that his family would arrange his marriage. Instead, they depleted his savings and never let him marry. Upon returning to Chhapra, once he lost his job as a security guard due to illness, his brothers allegedly seized his share of the land and forcibly evicted him. Now reliant on local charities for a single meal, Umesh has made a desperate appeal to the district administration to help him reclaim his property and live his remaining years with dignity.
