Plastic containers with the number ‘5’ written within the triangle are considered the safest. “These containers are made of polypropylene, which is ideal for storing food and beverages,” explains food safety expert Dr. Anita Sharma. To keep ginger fresh, wash and dry it, then put it in a container marked ‘5’ and keep it in the refrigerator. This keeps ginger fresh for weeks. However, using containers marked ‘1’, ‘3’, or ‘7’ can be harmful to health, as these are single-use or made of unsafe materials such as PVC.
