Ordering Food Gets Costlier! Swiggy Follows Zomato to Hike Platform Fee to ₹17.58 Per Order

Indian food delivery giants Swiggy and Zomato have once again increased their platform fees, making your home-delivered meals more expensive. As of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Swiggy raised its per-order platform fee to ₹17.58 (inclusive of GST), matching the recent price hike initiated by its rival, Zomato. This move ensures that regardless of the app you choose, the mandatory fee remains identical.
Why the Sudden Hike? The primary driver behind this increase is the pressure to improve unit economics. As publicly traded entities, both companies are focusing on sustainable profitability. Additionally, rising operational costs due to global crude oil price fluctuations have pushed delivery expenses higher. The current market structure is a classic duopoly, where the two dominant players mirror each other’s pricing strategies. Since Swiggy and Zomato control the vast majority of the market, consumers are left with limited choices, effectively ending the era of heavily subsidized convenience.
