No Tap, No Water, But a ₹7,260 Bill! Bilaspur Municipal Corporation Issues Shocking Notice to Resident

In a glaring example of bureaucratic negligence, the Bilaspur Municipal Corporation has issued a water bill of ₹7,260 to a resident who had officially disconnected his tap connection nearly three years ago. The incident has come to light in the Sirgitti zone, where the victim, Gokul Sahu, is now demanding answers from the authorities.
Background of the Dispute: Gokul Sahu, a resident of Nayapara, filed a written application with the corporation on July 3, 2023, requesting to sever his water connection due to lack of supply. He was even provided an official receipt for the same. According to Gokul, he had cleared all dues until June 2023 before closing the account.
The “Ghost” Billing: Surprisingly, years after the physical disconnection, municipal staff arrived at Gokul’s house with a legal notice addressed to his late father, Sumran Sahu. The notice demands payment for the period from July 2023 to March 2026. Gokul expressed frustration, stating, “When there is no pipe and no water flowing since 2023, on what basis is the corporation charging me?”
Demand for Accountability: Gokul Sahu has called for the immediate cancellation of the notice and an update of the municipal records. He has also urged higher authorities to take action against the staff responsible for this mental harassment and failure to maintain proper documentation.
