No More Traffic Nightmares at Chingrighata! New 7-km Link Road to Slash Travel Time Between Salt Lake & Ruby

In a massive relief for daily commuters, the West Bengal government has green-lit a mega infrastructure project to bypass the perennial traffic congestion at Chingrighata Crossing. NDITA (Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority) is set to transform the 7-km long narrow stretch from Mahishbathan to Bantala via Basanti Highway into a modern thoroughfare.
Strategic Alternative to Chingrighata For years, commuters traveling from South Kolkata to Sector V or New Town have been stuck in massive logjams at Chingrighata. This new project will modernize the existing trail through the East Kolkata Wetlands using advanced ‘Paver Blocks’ to ensure environmental sustainability and natural drainage.
Saving Time and Fuel Once completed, the journey from Sector V to Ruby Crossing will be shorter by 20 to 25 minutes. Traffic experts estimate that this alternative route will divert nearly 30% of the traffic from the Science City and Chingrighata stretch, acting as a lifeline for IT professionals working in Bantala and Sector V. The project is expected to be operational within the next few months, marking a new era for South-East Kolkata connectivity.
