Mumbai Sizzles in March! Orange Alert Issued for City and Thane as Temperatures Hit 39°C

The “City of Dreams” is currently reeling under a severe early-season heatwave. On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, as maximum temperatures soared to 39°C—nearly 6 degrees above normal. Meteorologists attribute this sudden spike to an anti-cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and Gujarat, which is pushing hot, dry winds toward the Konkan coast.

The delayed onset of the sea breeze has intensified the sweltering conditions, making afternoons unbearable for Mumbaikars. Authorities have advised citizens to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours (12 PM to 4 PM). While a slight dip in temperature is expected by the weekend, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist for the next 48 to 72 hours. Apart from Mumbai, other parts of Maharashtra, including Vidarbha, are also on high alert for heatwave conditions.
