In a disturbing development at the Salt Lake campus of the historic Calcutta University, a female student has moved the Calcutta High Court alleging threats of molestation by an influential Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) leader. The petitioner approached the judiciary after expressing dissatisfaction with the local police’s handling of the matter, citing the accused’s political clout as a barrier to justice.

According to the complaint, the student was subjected to verbal abuse and explicit threats of molestation within the university premises. The victim alleges that the atmosphere on campus has become suffocating due to the dominance of the accused leader, who allegedly uses his political connections to intimidate students. Fearing for her safety and academic future, she filed a petition in the High Court seeking an impartial investigation and immediate police protection. The High Court has accepted the plea, and a hearing is expected to take place shortly. This incident has sparked a massive outrage among the student community, raising concerns about the increasing criminalization of politics within educational sanctuaries.
