Mega Voter List Cleanup! 32 Lakh Pending Cases Resolved, Massive Deletions Confirmed by EC

In a significant move to ensure a “clean and error-free” electoral roll, the Election Commission has achieved a major milestone by resolving 32 lakh pending voter applications out of a total pool of 60 lakh cases. This massive drive, aimed at eliminating duplicate entries and bogus voters, has led to a significant restructuring of the voter database ahead of the upcoming electoral season.
Scale of Deletions: Out of the 32 lakh cases settled so far, approximately 9.66 lakh names have been permanently removed from the electoral rolls. The reasons for these deletions include death of the voter, permanent migration, or the discovery of multiple entries for the same individual across different constituencies. The Commission utilized advanced software-based de-duplication tools to identify “Demographically Similar Entries” (DSEs), ensuring that the principle of ‘One Person, One Vote’ is strictly upheld.
Future Course for Remaining 28 Lakh: While 32 lakh cases are resolved, nearly 28 lakh applications are still in the pipeline. The Commission has directed field officers to expedite the verification process for these remaining entries. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door visits to verify the authenticity of claimants. The Election Commission reiterated that while the focus is on removing ineligible names, every effort is being made to ensure that no genuine citizen is disenfranchised. Voters are encouraged to check their status on the official portal to ensure their credentials remain intact.
