Massive Fire Near Gobardanga Station! 12 Shops Gutted; Train Services Disrupted on Sealdah-Bongaon Line
A devastating fire broke out near Gobardanga Railway Station in North 24 Parganas on Tuesday morning around 7:00 AM. The blaze originated from a restaurant located adjacent to Platform 1 and quickly spread to neighboring shops due to a suspected gas cylinder explosion. According to reports, at least 12 shops have been completely reduced to ashes.
The dense and congested layout of the market made it challenging for the 3 fire engines deployed to reach the source of the fire. Firefighters, with the help of locals, managed to bring the situation under control after nearly two hours of intense effort. The incident caused temporary delays for local trains on the Sealdah-Bongaon section, inconveniencing office-goers. Chairman of Gobardanga Municipality, Shankar Dutta, visited the spot to oversee relief efforts. While no casualties were reported, the financial loss to local traders is estimated to be in the lakhs.
