A prominent Mandal member, along with 30 families who were long-term supporters of the BJP, officially crossed over to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) today. The defection took place at a local TMC party office where senior district leaders handed over the party flag to the newcomers. The outgoing BJP Mandal member expressed deep dissatisfaction with the party’s internal functioning, alleging that the top leadership has become disconnected from ground-level workers. “There is no space for loyal workers in the BJP anymore; we are inspired by Mamata Banerjee’s developmental policies,” he stated during the induction ceremony.

While the BJP leadership has dismissed the incident as “insignificant,” claiming that the exit of a few individuals will not impact their poll prospects, political analysts suggest otherwise. The loss of a Mandal member—who acts as a vital link between the party and the voters—along with dozens of families, could lead to a domino effect in nearby booths.
