Mandatory Switch! LPG Connections To Be Blocked In PNG Enabled Areas, Centre Issues Deadline

In a major policy push towards safer and more efficient domestic fuel management, the Central Government has issued a stern warning to consumers residing in PNG-enabled areas. As per the latest directive, individuals who have access to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) but continue to hold an active LPG cylinder connection are now under the radar. The government has signaled a fixed timeline after which non-compliant LPG connections will be automatically deactivated.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has emphasized the “One Kitchen, One Connection” policy. The primary concern cited is safety; having high-pressure piped gas alongside a pressurized LPG cylinder in the same kitchen significantly increases fire hazards. Furthermore, maintaining dual connections is seen as an inefficient use of national fuel resources. Under the new rules, oil marketing companies (OMCs) are authorized to identify and block LPG consumer IDs in zones where the pipeline network is fully operational.
For residents currently using both, the government suggests an immediate surrender or opting for the ‘Safe Custody’ of their LPG cylinders. Failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe could result in the permanent cancellation of the LPG connection and the forfeiture of any accumulated subsidies. This move is part of India’s larger transition towards a gas-based economy, aiming to reduce the logistical burden of transporting cylinders in congested urban landscapes.
