‘Mamata’s Remarks are Provocative’: BJP Moves Election Commission Seeking Ban on TMC Chief’s Campaign

As the election fever grips West Bengal, the legal and political battle between the BJP and the TMC has reached the doorstep of the Election Commission (EC). The Bharatiya Janata Party has officially filed a complaint against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her recent speeches are ‘provocative’ and aim to incite unrest among the public. The saffron party has demanded a temporary ban on the Chief Minister’s campaign trail, citing multiple violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
A high-level BJP delegation submitted a memorandum to the EC office, claiming that Mamata Banerjee’s rhetoric is designed to create communal polarization and undermine the authority of Central Forces stationed for election duty. “The Chief Minister is using language that is not only inflammatory but also poses a threat to the peaceful conduct of the polls,” stated a senior BJP leader. The party argued that such comments could intimidate voters and lead to violence in sensitive areas.
The BJP has also provided video clips and transcripts from recent rallies in North and South Bengal as evidence of these alleged infractions. They have requested the commission to take immediate suo-motu cognizance of the matter and issue a show-cause notice to the TMC supremo. According to the BJP, a strict precedent must be set to ensure that no high-profile leader bypasses the rules of a fair electoral process.
Responding to the allegations, the Trinamool Congress dismissed the complaint as a “sign of desperation.” The TMC leadership stated that the Chief Minister is merely highlighting the reality of the ground situation and defending the rights of the people of Bengal. With the EC now reviewing the submitted evidence, the political landscape remains tense as both sides await a decisive ruling.
