Malda on Fire! National Highway Blocked Over Voter List Deletion Scandal

The unrest in Malda over the deletion of names from the voter list intensified today as protesters took to the streets across several locations. From burning tyres to erecting bamboo barricades, the district witnessed widespread agitation, leaving the administration struggling to maintain order.
In the English Bazar assembly constituency, residents of Yadupur Gram Panchayat blocked the National Highway at the Yadupur High School junction. The protesters alleged that despite being legitimate citizens and long-time voters, their names were systematically deleted from the updated rolls. The blockade caused massive traffic snarls on the highway, affecting hundreds of commuters.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Manikchak assembly constituency, where hundreds of men and women gathered at the Manikchak stand, burning tyres to register their protest. With reports of nearly 22 lakh voters being delisted across the state, Malda has become the epicenter of this public outcry. Heavy police forces have been deployed to disperse the crowds and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
