Leadership Crisis? Second High-Profile Exit at Akasa Air in Just Three Years

Akasa Air, the three-year-old budget carrier, is witnessing a significant leadership shake-up. Praveen Iyer, the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and a key member of the founding team has officially resigned. Iyer played a pivotal role in the airline’s executive committee since its launch in August 2022 and was instrumental in shaping its market entry strategy.

Following his departure, the airline has appointed its Chief Information Officer (CIO), Anand Srinivasan, to take over as the new Commercial Head. This marks the second high-level exit within the founding team, following the resignation of Neelu Khatri, who led international operations, last year.

Despite the loss of key founders, the Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed airline remains focused on growth. After raising fresh capital from the family offices of Azim Premji and Ranjan Pai in August 2025, Akasa Air is pushing past previous growth hurdles caused by Boeing delivery delays. With a 5% share of India’s domestic aviation market, the airline plans to induct 12 more aircraft this year. However, industry experts are closely watching how these frequent leadership changes might affect the carrier’s long-term stability and expansion goals.
